Proposals to build the 14,500-home development near Hinxton were scrapped after a tidal wave of opposition from residents nearby. But the township is back on the agenda as the East of England Regional Assembly carries out public consultation on the East of England Plan, a blueprint for development over the next two decades. A website has been created by the planners for people to have their say on Hanley Grange - with a deadline of 5pm today (Tuesday, 24 November). As the cut-off point loomed, comments were pouring in, virtually all of them expressing opposition to the idea. Many highlighted the impact of the extra traffic that the township would produce on existing small communities. Others raised fears about problems such as flooding, which would be caused by agricultural land being covered with houses and tarmac. County councillor Tim Stone, who represents Duxford, has been helping to co-ordinate opposition to Hanley Grange, and he said he was pleased at the last-minute rush of protest.
